Creating Bio-diversity Registers – Year 2015

This project involves bringing together the community and technical experts to document the diverse bio-resources in local habitats, their uses and associated traditional knowledge. This is crucial for conserving the fast-dying knowledge of bio-diversity and also for protecting and strengthening these resources. Aranya is facilitating this process for the Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) of two Gram Panchayats i.e. Komally and Pulmaddi in Rangareddy district of Telangana.

This project is being implemented with the financial support of the Telangana State Biodiversity Board. As per the Telangana State Biodiversity Rules, 2015 the Board is to provide guidance and technical support to BMCs in preparing People’s Biodiversity Registers, and ensure that all information recorded in such Register receives legal protection against misuse and appropriation by outside agencies and individuals. The Board has engaged Aranya for this purpose.
